FIRST FIS SKI WORLD CUP OPENING 2013 TELEMARK on the Hintertux Glacier

For the very first time, the FIS SKI WORLD CUP OPENING 2013 with the newly revived FIS discipline of Telemark skiing will be staged at the Tux-Finkenberg sports region, which features Austria’s only all-year skiing resort, the Hintertux Glacier. From the 28.11. – 01.12.2013, top skiers will demonstrate their Telemark skills on the slopes of the Hintertux Glacier. The Telemark experts give the Tux-Finkenberg tourist trade an important stimulus.

The organising committee looks especially forward to welcoming a considerable line-up of around 120 competing athletes from 14 nations.

The special thing about Telemark racing is that it combines the various Nordic disciplines with one another. In addition to the downhill run, the athletes also have to master a jump and land in a classical Telemark stance. The racers have to negotiate a loop (360° banked curve) and then overcome a skating passage until they finally cross the finishing line. The riding style is an important point-awarding factor, but the racers also need to ensure that they achieve or exceed the specified minimum jumping distance and that they don’t forget to perform the Telemark stance, otherwise they will suffer second penalties. This ensures that the races are both entertaining and exciting, from the start to the finish.

The realisation of the FIS SKI WORLD CUP OPENING 2013 TELEMARK on the Hintertux Glacier lies in the experienced hands of the “Wintersportverein Hippach”, the Hintertux Glacier and the Tux-Finkenberg Tourist Board. Two different disciplines (a Sprint competition and a Parallel Sprint competition) are held over three days of racing. A total of approx. 150 voluntary helpers will be on duty at the FIS SKI WORLD CUP OPENING 2013 TELEMARK.

The Programme:

Thursday, 28.11.2013                     Ceremonial Opening in Tux-Lanersbach

Numerous events within the region ensure that lots of entertainment is provided between the competitions: on Thursday, 28.11.2013, the Ceremonial Opening takes place in Tux-Lanersbach with numerous highlights, on Friday, 29.11.2013, the athletes are given active Telemark support by the Freeheeler European Opening in Lanersbach with the “Freeheeler Movie-night” at the Medal Plaza and the “Guitar Night” by the Schwindelfrei cultural initiative at the Tux-Center, on Saturday, 30.11.2013, the FIS SKI WORLD CUP OPENING 2013 TELEMARK Award Ceremony is held at the Medal Plaza and the “Freeheeler Winners’ Party” is held in the Kleine Tenne in Lanersbach.
